A New Year, A New Addition to OCPS

by Drs. John Compoginis, Staci Compoginis, Deborah Ekstrom and Juris Bunkis

Happy New Year to all of you! We trust you welcomed 2023 in a pleasant and safe fashion.

The New Year is always a time of reflection about the past and a time of planning for the future – a time for New Year’s resolutions. Likewise, at OCPS, we reflect on the year that has passed, plan for the future and make the resolution to continue providing you with the best care possible! Dr. Compoginis and I do have some big news to share with all of you as this year begins. For the past few years, I have been working at Salisbury Plastic Surgery in Worcester, MA, with Dr. Deborah Ekstrom, as well as at Orange County Plastic Surgery. Dr. Deborah Ekstrom applied for and received her California license and will now begin seeing patients with Dr. Compoginis and I at OCPS in Newport Beach.

Dr. Ekstrom graduated from the University of Minnesota in 1973 with a degree in biology and chemistry. She went on to medical school at the University of Minnesota and did her internship and general surgical prerequisite training there as well – at a time when females were not very welcome in the surgical specialties. She spent a year as a psychiatry resident but realized surgery was her calling and did a fellowship in Microsurgery in Minnesota as well. She next moved to the University of Massachusetts in 1984, where she did her plastic surgery training. While she was a resident, I was invited to U Mass as a guest lecturer and first met her there. Her program director, Dr. Robert Walton, asked if I would take her to Guatemala on one of my mission trips to teach her how to operate on cleft lips and palates. She did accompany me and I, was very impressed with her skills. Over the years, I have followed her development as a plastic surgeon. Following her plastic surgery residency, she did another fellowship in hand surgery with Dr. Kirk Watson in Connecticut and then returned to U Mass to teach and to start a private practice. She has published articles and textbook chapters in plastic surgery. She went on to become the president of the New England Society of Plastic Surgeons and was a founding member of the Central Mass Independent Physician Association. She has built a stellar aesthetic practice in Worcester, and for the past three years, I have enjoyed working with her at her Worcester practice.

Dr. Ekstrom has spent her career helping women look and be their best. She is also the founder and CEO of Money Loves Women, a media company dedicated to placing more power, influence, and money into the hands of women with the intention of creating a more balanced and peaceful world. Through the years of her professional career, she has practiced the principles of high performance and wealth building.

Dr. Ekstrom believes that, in order to achieve wealth, women need to develop spiritual depth, polished personal presence, and strategize for a masterful performance. Her company provides inspiration, action-based practices, and context for transformation with those end goals and partners with others who hold these values.
Dr. Ekstrom hosts her podcast Money Loves Women showcasing individuals who demonstrate the principles for wealth and achievement, sharing their success secrets and describing actionable cash flow and asset growth opportunities in ways that are easy to understand. Her podcast is available on Spotify, Apple and wherever you listen to podcasts.

Orange County Plastic Surgery will be hosting a soirée on January 19th at 5 pm. The invitation for this event follows this blog – do RSVP and come in to meet Drs. Compoginis and Ekstrom, and to see me again. This should be a very informative and fun-filled evening with many opportunities to win free treatments.

It gives me great pleasure to now welcome Dr. Ekstrom to our Newport practice.
