SLOWLY RETURNING TO NORMAL
Saturday at Roger’s Gardens in Corona del Mar.
Hello from all of us at Orange County Plastic Surgery in Newport Beach, CA and
Salisbury Plastic Surgery in Worcester, MA. Dr. Ekstrom spent this past week in
California, away from the distractions of her practice, getting ready for her
upcoming Visioning Workshop on May 8th. In addition to helping women enhance
their personal presence through plastic surgery for the past 35 years, she is
committed to helping women grow wealth in every area of their lives, including
their financial capabilities. Her free visioning
workshop will revolve around
learning the science of abundance. Please see Dr. Ekstrom’s podcast website at
www.moneyloveswomen.com for more information. Dr.
Bunkis was in OC this week
taking care of patients, mainly doing a number of facelifts.
This is our weekly COVID update. Each time we have published these, we have received comments from readers, most thanking us for the information, but a few each month, slamming us for promoting masks, social distancing and vaccines (thanks to all of you for your input and opinions – even though we don’t agree with the latter sentiments, we appreciate your responses). But we received one comment which surprised us – one reader thanked us for the COVID updates but asked us to include more non-COVID related information, about our lives and how we are dealing with the COVID pandemic! Well, this week we will give you a COVID update and tell you a little about a most enjoyable visit to Roger’s Gardens in Corona del Mar Saturday – we are trying to lead as normal a life as possible in spite of the COVID pandemic! For those of you unfamiliar with Roger’s Gardens, it has been the premiere garden center in Orange County for decades! Who is Roger? It was founded by Roger McKinnon in 1965 and thus the name. It was purchased, moved from its original Costa Mesa to its current Corona del Mar location, and greatly expanded by Gavin Herbert, Sr in the early 1970’s. Gavin Herbert, Sr is better known as the founder of Allergan Pharmaceuticals, currently our provider of Botox®, Juvederm®, and Natrelle® breast implants, all products which are familiar to plastic surgeons worldwide! He was a very dynamic human being, hung around the likes of Richard Nixon, and ended up buying Richard Nixon’s estate in San Clemente, the “Western White House” - Dr. Bunkis was honored to have a dinner at this beautiful home back in 2001 or 2002. Roger’s Gardens are home to a fantastic restaurant, The Farmhouse, which specializes in organic and healthy fare. And of course, the Gardens house a fabulous collection of both indoor and outdoor plants that flourish in our ideal climate here in Orange County! What an orchid collection and display! Yes, you can social distance, wear a mask and sanitize your hands, but we strongly recommend spending a day there!
Things are slowly returning to normal in both California and Massachusetts. At church yesterday, we were surprised to see church goers in every row of pews with social distancing limited to 3 feet instead of six. Restaurants are all open for indoor dining but seating is still limited. Theaters are open with limited capacity. And most importantly, anyone over the age of 16, in every State, Washington DC and Puerto Rico, is now eligible for vaccination! Every adult should get themselves on a list and go get vaccinated. More and more people are getting vaccinated every day – more than 131 million people, half of the US population, have received at least one dose of the vaccine, and are at least partially protected! We are on our way to “herd immunity”. In spite of this success, the number of patients infected with the COVID virus is still growing, going up by 5% over the last two weeks – we are not out of the woods! Yes, it is true that 5,800 fully vaccinated Americans have contracted COVID – but all have had a mild case, no different than a mild flu, and none of these patients have required hospitalization or died. We will not get to zero COVID infections in the foreseeable future. COVID victory will be its elimination – victory will mean turning the infection into something that causes a minor illness that does not require a reordering of our lives! The vaccine makers have begun work on booster vaccines and yes, before the year is out, we will probably have to start going back for a booster vaccine to stay protected.
