Presidents Day

Presidents’ Day is a federal holiday celebrated on the third Monday in February; Presidents’ Day 2023 will occur today Monday, February 20. Originally established in 1885 in recognition of President George Washington, the holiday became popularly known as Presidents’ Day after it was moved as part of 1971’s Uniform Monday Holiday Act, an attempt to create more three-day weekends for the nation’s workers.

While several states still have individual holidays honoring the birthdays of Washington, Abraham Lincoln and other figures, Presidents’ Day is now popularly viewed as a day to celebrate all U.S. presidents, past and present. Many children have a school holiday and hopefully will do something productive and/or healthy.

Cosmetic Surgery and the 46th President

By Dr Compoginis, M.D., F.A.C.S.

President Biden is currently the country’s oldest president ever (80 years-old) and if re-elected in two years will probably hold that title for some time. Along with this advanced age comes the advanced, natural changes in the face that many seek to change and reverse through plastic surgery. While I have never treated, met or claimed to know for certain that Joe Biden has had any cosmetic procedures, I can say with a significant degree of confidence that he has undergone multiple facial procedures in an attempt to maintain a youthful look.

Internet picture sleuthing suggests that some time after 2012 Mr Biden began to have facial changes consistent with plastic surgeries and procedures. In my professional opinion he underwent a cervicofacial rhytidectomy (facelift/necklift), a blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery) and may have had hair plugs and intermittent Beauty injections.

Other than a more youthful appearance there are small telltale signs that a facelift has been performed. First is the scar. Although I’ve never seen the president in person there are a few suspicious photos one of which is below (Figure 1) that seem to show an obvious scar in front of the ear. A typical facelift has a scar that wraps around the border of the ear.

While the president could have had another procedure performed that created a similar scar, the facelift is the obvious choice. Also demonstrated in Figure 1 is the anterior (forward) pull of the tragus. The tragus is the cartilaginous protrusion in front of the ear canal. In Figure 1, Joe Biden’s tragus seems to be pulled forward allowing us to see directly into his ear canal. This is one of the side effects of a facelift scar being too tight.

Finally, we see in Figure 3 and 4 more evidence of procedures performed around the eyes and the mouth. In Figure 4 the heaviness of the upper lids and eyebrows is apparent in the before picture on the bottom, while after the presumed eyelid surgery the tired heavy look is gone. He also has changes in the lower eyelid bags as well as an unnatural upward and lateral slant of the lower eyelids indicating a lower eyelid tightening procedure has been performed. In Figure 3 the widening of his smile by several millimeters suggests he face has been pulled back by a facelift and this is supported by the improvement in his smile lines (nasolabial folds).

The striking changes in his face are nothing to be ashamed of as we are all subjected to “the passage of time” and gravity. To my knowledge President Biden has not been transparent about any cosmetic procedures performed but then again I’m not sure anyone has asked.
