Have you noticed that your face looks thinner as you get older? Fat loss in the cheek area is a common problem that comes with age. In addition to looking sullener, the fat loss also allows facial skin to sag, and this creates wrinkles in your lower face and sagging along your jawline. Restoring the volume in your cheeks adds youthful contours and reduces the wrinkles and creases in other areas of your face. Sculptra® is an injectable product that stimulates collagen production to firm and volumizes your cheek area.
How Does Sculptra® Work?
Sculptra® injections contain poly-l-lactic acid, a substance that produces collagen through a bio-stimulatory process. The acid gradually breaks down, leaving behind new collagen fibers. Collagen is important for a young appearance because it provides an underlying support structure for your skin, and it adds volume.
What is Sculptra® Used For?
Sculptra® is most commonly used for cheeks enhancement, but Sculptra® face injections are also used to add volume to the:
- Mouth and nose area for marionette lines and smile lines
Sculptra® can also be used to add volume to your buttocks, hips, and décolletage.
How Long Does Sculptra® Last?
Sculptra® face sculpting injections produce long-lasting results. It may take up to six months for the new collagen to develop in your skin, and it remains in place for up to two years.
Is Sculptra® Better Than Other Fillers?
Most dermal fillers add temporary volume to your skin, typically by introducing substances that bind with water. Collagen takes time to break down, and you can enjoy anti-aging benefits with Sculptra® for up to 24 months. Some patients also find that the new collagen provides a firmness that cannot be achieved with fillers that contain hyaluronic acid.
What are the Side Effects of Sculptra®?
As with any type of injectable product, you may experience some short-term side effects with your Sculptra® treatments. The most common are itching, tenderness, redness, bruising, pinpoint bleeding, and swelling around the injection sites. These symptoms typically last two to three days.
In rare cases, small lumps may form at the injection sites. The lumps may appear and disappear for the first six to 12 months after the treatment.
How Long Does Sculptra® Last?
The results of your Sculptra® treatment may last up to two years. This depends on how quickly your body breaks down the new collagen fibers. We recommend that you schedule a follow-up treatment every 10 to 12 months.
What Happens When Sculptra® Wears Off?
Collagen gradually breaks down, and it can take up to 24 months for the anti-aging results of Sculptra® to fade. The changes are not obvious or dramatic but very subtle. Most people won’t see a significant change in your appearance as the collagen fibers break down. We recommend that you have touch-up treatments after 10 to 12 months to maintain the results of your Sculptra® injections.
