Before you have breast enhancement surgery, you will have a complete physical examination. Overall good health is necessary for a successful result. The procedure is performed in an operating room under a light general anesthetic and generally takes about an hour and a half. A short incision is made, usually along the lower breast fold, and a pocket created for the implant. Pain pump catheters are usually inserted to allow the infusion of a local anesthetic solution for the first few days after surgery and thus drastically reduce discomfort. A Keller Funnel(R) may be used to insert the implants. The pocket is closed and the patient placed in a bra.

Existing native breast tissue, breast shape, and skin elasticity are other factors to take into consideration. Measurements will be taken of the breasts, as well as the chest wall, including base width, to help determine the best implant type.
