Labiaplasty in Newport Beach, Orange County

Labiaplasty procedure is a genital beautification surgery, and it is also performed for medical reasons. At our clinic in Orange County, we offer two types of vaginal beautification and rejuvenation procedures.

Labia Surgery

Labia surgery aims to improve the proportion of your inner lips and outer lips. This is achieved by surgically removing a small amount of excess tissue from the labia. You may want to consider labia surgery for aesthetic reasons, and it can also help with chafing and discomfort related to having larger inner labia.

Reasons to Consider Labiaplasty

Labia reduction surgery is most often recommended for women who want to improve the aesthetics of their vaginal areas. There are some medical reasons for labiaplasty, such as incontinence, chafing, pain during intercourse, and vaginal loosening due to childbirth and aging. Vaginoplasty is a female genital cosmetic surgery that helps women look and feel more confident and comfortable in their most private moments.

Types of Labiaplasty

There are three most common types of vaginal rejuvenation procedures:

  • Reduction Labiaplasty is the most common type of labiaplasty. This procedure involves reducing the size of the enlarged labia minora (the inner vaginal lips).
  • Wedge Labiaplasty is a variation of reduction labiaplasty. This procedure is used to correct asymmetry in the size or shape of the labia minora.
  • Clitoral Hood Reduction Labiaplasty is a procedure performed to reduce excess skin around the clitoris.

At our clinic in Newport Beach we also offer nonsurgical vaginal rejuvenation treatments for labia reduction and non-surgical radiofrequency labia reduction. Labia minora reduction involves removing a small amount of tissue with a scalpel. Labia majora reduction is achieved with the ThermiVa® system.

What Happens During Labiaplasty?

Vaginal rejuvenation surgery for the labia minora requires local anesthesia. Dr. Bunkis uses a scalpel to remove small amounts of tissue, and the incisions are closed with surgical glue or sutures. ThermiVa® vaginal rejuvenation involves using a special handpiece that emits radiofrequency energy. General anesthesia is not required. You may feel a slight warming sensation during the procedure.

Recovery and Results After Labiaplasty

In general, labiaplasty recovery process takes one to two weeks. During this time, you’ll need to rest at home and avoid putting pressure on your vaginal area. This includes avoiding sexual intercourse. Use a donut cushion when you sit down. After one to two weeks, you can return to your normal activities. Avoid intercourse and strenuous activities for at least six weeks.

You’ll start to see your labiaplasty results as the swelling subsides. Initially, the labiaplasty scar heals as a light pink or tan line. Due to the position of the incision, the final scar is barely noticeable.

Labiaplasty Surgery Side Effects

Side effects of labiaplasty procedure are rare. The most common complications of surgical procedures are infection, excessive scarring, and asymmetry. With surgical and non-surgical labiaplasty procedures, it is possible that you may have reduced sensitivity or discomfort during intercourse. We recommend that you use caution when you begin having intercourse after your vaginal rejuvenation. The tissues will be tighter.

Can Labiaplasty Cause Nerve Damage?

Your labia and vaginal area have an extensive network of nerves, and it is possible to damage the nerves during labiaplasty. You can reduce the risk by entrusting your labiaplasty procedure to Orange County Plastic Surgery.
