Family

By Drs. Deborah Ekstrom and Juris Bunkis

Family time together holds a special place in our hearts for many reasons. It’s a time when generations come together, creating bonds and memories, that last a lifetime. Having our adult children, their spouses, and their children spend Spring Break with us this week is a true blessing.

Despite the hustle and bustle of coordinating schedules and activities, the satisfaction derived from being surrounded by loved ones is immeasurable. From the moment they arrive, there’s an energy in the air—a sense of joy and excitement that permeates every interaction.

Even though the weather did not cooperate this past weekend, with kids darting in and out of the pool and engaging in spirited games, the atmosphere has been alive with laughter and fun. These simple moments, shared together, become cherished memories that we’ll look back on fondly.

Amidst the laughter and play, there are also moments of quiet connection—heartfelt conversations, shared stories, and the comfort of being surrounded by the people who know us best. Together, we relive old memories and create new ones, weaving the tapestry of our family history with each passing day.

And let’s not forget the food—gathered around the table, sharing delicious meals prepared with love, it’s a time-honored tradition that brings us closer together.

In the end, it is the combination of these moments—the laughter, the love, the shared experiences—that makes family time so special. It is a time to cement our bonds, strengthen our connections, and revel in the joy of being together.

Spotlight on Plastic Surgery – Transconjuctival vs Transcutaneous Lower Lid Blepharoplasty

By Drs. Deborah Ekstrom & Juris Bunkis

Lower eyelid rejuvenation addresses common concerns such as fatty bags, skin laxity, and wrinkling. Choosing the right procedure is crucial for achieving optimal results and avoiding complications.

For those with fatty bags but minimal skin laxity, a transconjunctival lower lid blepharoplasty is often recommended. This procedure involves accessing the fat pads through the inside of the eyelid, eliminating external scarring and reducing the risk of ectropion (where the lower eyelid gets pulled downward and outward).

In cases where skin laxity is present, with or without fatty bags, a standard transcutaneous (external) incision may be necessary. However, it’s essential to be conservative with skin removal to prevent ectropion.

Patients dealing primarily with wrinkling, without significant bags or skin excess, may benefit from treatments like laser resurfacing or chemical peels. These procedures help improve skin texture and reduce fine lines without the need for surgery.

By accurately diagnosing the specific concerns and selecting the appropriate technique, patients can achieve pleasing aesthetic results with lower eyelid rejuvenation. Consulting with a qualified plastic surgeon is essential to determine the best approach for individual needs and goals.
