Hard Work Has Helped Tame Coronavirus Pandemic
54 years ago this month – Dr. Bunkis reaching higher!
Hello from all of us at Orange County Plastic Surgery in Newport Beach, CA and
Salisbury Plastic Surgery in Worcester, MA. Hard work does pay off! This
pandemic has given us almost a year and a half of fear, sickness, death and
social isolation – and gratitude for our families, health and the blessings in
our lives. Victory over COVID-19 has not yet arrived but we are getting close.
This has occurred because of our efforts including social distancing, hand
washing and mask wearing, as well as the efforts of the CDC, vaccine
manufacturers, and government officials here and abroad. These vaccines were
conceived, developed and distributed at a historically rapid pace. The number of
hospitalized patients and deaths has fallen to the lowest point in 11 months.
This past week, for the first time since March 5, 2020, at San Francisco General
Hospital, where Dr. Bunkis began his teaching career in 1981, there were no
COVID patients. Britain and Israel are two countries that have vaccinated more
citizens than the US has – COVID deaths there are down 99% from their peak. The
key to victory over the COVID pandemic is vaccinations. Currently, more than 60%
of American adults have received at least one vaccine injection and that number
is growing by about 2% per week, plus teens are now being injected as well.
There is discrepancy – while three quarters of Massachusetts residents and two
thirds of Californians are at least partially vaccinated, the numbers are
lagging in some of the southern states where vaccine resistance is high. 64% of
Vermont residence are fully vaccinated while only 32% of Mississippi residents
have been vaccinated.
What these improvements mean to us is a slow return to a more normal lifestyle. The CDC stated last week that fully vaccinated people can congregate and not wear masks. Many states and businesses are following those suggestions and are taking away COVID imposed restrictions, and business is returning to normal. New York is open! Nashville is fully open. As of May 29th all businesses and venues in Massachusetts will be able to reopen at full capacity. And the same will occur in California on June 15th.
Thanks to all of you for doing your part to tame this pandemic!
