Handel’s Glorious Messiah

By Dr. Juris Bunkis

Last week, the OCPS Team began our Holy Season by enjoying Handel’s Messiah at Symphony Hall – another spectacular performance by our very own Pacific Symphony and Pacific Chorale. We are so blessed to live in such a beautiful area with so much talent surrounding us!

Handel’s Messiah, composed by George Frideric Handel in 1741, is a renowned oratorio that has achieved lasting acclaim. Originally intended for the Easter season, it is now most commonly associated with Christmas performances. The work’s libretto, compiled by Charles Jennens, draws from biblical texts, emphasizing the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Handel completed the composition in a remarkable 24 days, displaying his prolific talent.
Messiah premiered in Dublin in 1742, and its London debut followed shortly thereafter. The oratorio’s triumphant “Hallelujah” chorus has become iconic, earning it a place in cultural celebrations worldwide. Standing during that famous Hallelujah chorus, a tradition said to have begun in 1743, occurred when King George II rose from his seat, enthralled by the beauty of the music. Not wanting to offend the king, the audience also stood, and has done so around the globe ever since, every time the Hallelujah chorus has been performed.

Over the centuries, Messiah has enjoyed enduring popularity, transcending religious and cultural boundaries. Its majestic and emotive qualities have secured its status as a masterpiece, regularly performed by choirs and orchestras globally during the holiday season and beyond.

Spotlight on Plastic Surgery – 12 Days of Christmas Specials

By Drs. Deborah Ekstrom and Juris Bunkis

We are so grateful to each and every one, of you as our patients, for helping make our lives so interesting and successful. To help give back, we are running our 12 Days of Christmas Specials. On December 19th, we will be offering BioTe’s Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy pelleting at a substantial discount. All patients seeking a consultation on that day will also receive a book on hormone replacement by the founder of BioTe. As we age, all of hormone levels drop. Let’s look at the five main reasons why pelleting is the ideal way to counter this loss.

1. Natural Hormone Mimicry: BioTe’s Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy (BHRT) utilizes hormones that are structurally identical to the hormones naturally produced by the body. This mimics the body’s natural processes more closely than synthetic hormones, potentially leading to a smoother integration and reduced side effects.

2. Customized Treatment Plans: BioTe tailors its BHRT to each individual’s unique hormonal needs. Through comprehensive testing, healthcare providers can identify specific deficiencies and create personalized treatment plans, ensuring that patients receive the precise amount of hormones needed for optimal balance.

3. Symptom Relief: BHRT aims to alleviate symptoms associated with hormonal imbalances, such as fatigue, mood swings, hot flashes, and decreased libido. By addressing the root cause of these symptoms, BioTe’s therapy seeks to enhance overall well-being and quality of life.

4. Long-term Health Benefits: Balancing hormones with BHRT may contribute to long-term health benefits, including improved bone density, cardiovascular health, and cognitive function. Maintaining hormonal balance is crucial for various bodily functions, and BioTe’s approach emphasizes overall health and wellness.

5. Monitoring and Adjustments: BioTe’s BHRT involves ongoing monitoring of hormone levels to ensure that treatment remains effective. This dynamic approach allows healthcare providers to make necessary adjustments, optimizing hormone levels over time and providing patients with a personalized and evolving treatment plan. Regular monitoring helps maintain the delicate balance of hormones, promoting sustained well-being.
