OCPS welcomes our newest member Judy!

By Drs. Deborah Ekstrom and Juris Bunkis

Our newest member of the OCPS team Judy is a patient coordinator and she is a fierce patient coordinator and a fierce MMA fighter! Our interview with Judy follows…

Hi Judy! When did you start MMA and how did you get involved?

At just 15 years old, I stumbled upon a gym on my way home from school and decided to give boxing a shot. Little did I know, it would transform my life in the most incredible way. From my very first day, I was hooked. The adrenaline rush, the discipline, and the sheer determination. Boxing became so much more than a sport, it became my life’s passion and it continues to shape me into the person I am today.

What motivated you?
My motivation has been driven by a long-held aspiration, I am determined to become a boxing gym owner, igniting positive transformations in people’s lives, just like it revolutionized mine. My ultimate goal is to establish a space where fierce passion and hard work mesh, enabling individuals to find newfound strength and confidence within themselves.

What is your training?

My training has been accelerating! I’ve been fortunate to work alongside legendary boxing and MMA coaches including Javier Treviño, Luke Flo, and Eric Molina, who have pushed me to my limits. Breaking barriers, I proudly became the first female coach at TITLE BOXING CLUB in McAllen, Texas, and even had the chance to expand my horizons by training with athletes across the United States. In 2020, I finally realized my dream of opening my own boxing studio, marking the beginning of an exciting new chapter in my career.

What is your workout routine and how often do you practice and compete?

As a boxing instructor, I thrive on staying active and in top shape. With rigorous training five days a week and dedicated focus on muscle recovery two days a week, I go above and beyond what I teach my students. I firmly believe that proper nutrition is key to unlocking the full potential of our bodies since they will only give us as much as we put into them.

What are your goals for the future?

My ultimate aspiration is to positively transform lives by expanding the franchise of Boxeo Factory, my brand, throughout California. With the vision of bringing high-quality boxing training and fitness experiences to more individuals, I aim to instill motivation, discipline, and confidence in people within their fitness journeys. By expanding the reach of Boxeo Factory, I hope to make a profound impact and contribute towards a healthier and happier community in California.

Why do you like working at OCPS?

Working at OCPS has been a refreshing change, immersing me in a new atmosphere that constantly teaches me innovative tactics and the significance of teamwork. Surprisingly, witnessing the transformative power of plastic surgery as a means to enhance people’s confidence has brought me immense joy. To me, OCPS feels like a close-knit familia, wherein we support and uplift one another.

What are the benefits of abdominoplasty?

By Drs. Deborah Ekstrom and Juris Bunkis

Abdominoplasty, commonly known as a tummy tuck, offers several significant benefits for individuals seeking to improve the appearance and functionality of their abdominal area. This surgical procedure aims to remove excess skin and fat while tightening weakened or separated muscles, providing both cosmetic enhancement and potential health advantages.

One of the primary benefits of abdominoplasty is the removal of excess skin and fat deposits from the abdominal region. Factors such as pregnancy, significant weight loss, or aging can lead to stretched or sagging skin in the abdomen. Abdominoplasty effectively addresses this concern by excising surplus skin and eliminating stubborn fat pockets, resulting in a smoother, more contoured abdominal profile.

Moreover, abdominoplasty can repair weakened or separated abdominal muscles, a condition known as diastasis recti. This muscle separation, common after pregnancy or due to weight fluctuations, can cause a protruding abdomen and compromise core strength. The procedure involves tightening these muscles through a technique called rectus plication, restoring abdominal wall integrity and improving core stability.

Beyond the cosmetic enhancements, abdominoplasty can offer functional benefits. Strengthening the abdominal muscles can alleviate back pain by providing better support to the spine. Additionally, individuals who have undergone significant weight loss and are left with excess skin may find that a tummy tuck not only improves their appearance but also enhances comfort, mobility, and confidence.

Psychological well-being can also be positively impacted by abdominoplasty. Many individuals experience increased self-confidence and improved body image following the procedure, leading to enhanced social interactions and a greater willingness to participate in physical activities.

While the aesthetic improvements are significant, abdominoplasty’s functional and psychological benefits should not be overlooked. The procedure can contribute to an overall sense of well-being and improved quality of life for individuals who have struggled with the physical and emotional effects of excess abdominal skin, weakened muscles, or a protruding belly.

It’s crucial for prospective patients to have realistic expectations and understand that abdominoplasty, like any surgical procedure, involves risks, including the potential for complications such as infection, bleeding, or unfavorable scarring. Consulting with a qualified plastic surgeon is essential to evaluate candidacy, discuss goals, and understand the procedure’s potential outcomes and associated risks.

In conclusion, abdominoplasty offers a range of benefits, including the removal of excess skin and fat, the tightening of abdominal muscles, potential relief from back pain, and improvements in both physical and psychological well-being. When performed by a skilled surgeon and with proper post-operative care, abdominoplasty can be a transformative procedure, providing individuals with a more contoured abdomen and a renewed sense of confidence and comfort in their bodies.
