Trip to the Embassy

By Drs. Deborah Ekstrom and Juris Bunkis

Attending the Annual Meeting of the Latvian Consuls of the Americas at the Latvian Embassy in Washington provided a valuable opportunity for networking and gaining insights into various aspects of Latvian affairs. Amidst the grandeur of Embassy Row, where stately buildings line the streets, the gathering offered a platform for discussions on pressing matters, with the ongoing conflict in Ukraine and Russia’s aggressive stance taking center stage.

Despite the geopolitical challenges, Latvia’s resilience shines through, underscored by its economic stability and integration into the European Union and NATO. This success story amidst adversity reflects Latvia’s determination and adaptability.

Exploring Washington, a city rich in history and culture, added depth to the experience. The United States Botanical Gardens offered a serene retreat, showcasing a diverse array of plant species and botanical wonders. Meanwhile, the National Gallery of Art captivated with its masterful collections, providing a glimpse into the world of art spanning centuries.

Amidst the intellectual pursuits and diplomatic engagements, an unexpected twist added a dash of excitement. As dinner unfolded at Bistrot du Coin (yes, the restaurant is called Bistrot, not Bistro), the ambiance was momentarily disrupted by the commotion outside, with police presence and helicopters overhead. The White House Correspondents’ Dinner, a high-profile event, unfolded nearby, juxtaposing the elegance of the evening with the realities of public demonstrations by pro Palestinians.

Overall, the weekend in Washington was a blend of professional exchange, cultural exploration, and a touch of unforeseen excitement, leaving lasting impressions and memories to cherish.

Spotlight on Plastic Surgery – Who Benefits from an Early Facelift?

By Drs. Deborah Ekstrom & Juris Bunkis

We are seeing younger patients requesting facial rejuvenation. Just as some people are taller and others shorter, some have larger noses and others smaller, some people just age quicker than others. The largest number of younger patients requesting facial rejuvenation in our practice are those who have lost a lot of weight in their 30s’ and have facial laxity similar to a patient 50 years old. Absolutely, evaluating each patient individually for facial rejuvenation is crucial, regardless of age. Factors such as skin quality, elasticity, bone structure, and overall health should all be taken into consideration when determining the appropriate treatment plan.

For some individuals, early signs of sagging may warrant intervention to prevent further progression and maintain a youthful appearance. Others may choose to undergo rejuvenation procedures when signs of aging are more advanced and bothersome. The goal is to tailor the treatment approach to address specific concerns and achieve natural-looking results that enhance the patient’s features.
Facial rejuvenation techniques can range from non-invasive procedures such as injectables and laser therapy to surgical interventions like facelifts and brow lifts. The choice of procedure depends on the patient’s goals, anatomy, and preferences, as well as the expertise of the healthcare provider.

By approaching facial aging with a personalized and comprehensive mindset, patients can feel empowered to make informed decisions about their aesthetic journey. Additionally, adopting healthy lifestyle habits and skincare practices can complement rejuvenation treatments, helping to optimize results and maintain long-term skin health.
Ultimately, the goal of facial rejuvenation is not to defy aging entirely but to enhance one’s natural beauty and confidence, allowing individuals to embrace the aging process with acceptance and grace.
